Which school or schools did you go to? Milton Primary (P1&2), Dalreoch Primary (P3-7) and Dumbarton Academy Who was your favourite teacher? Why? In Primary my favorite teacher was Mr Jermison – he had an afro, wore great tank tops and drove an orange bubble car – he taught me how to tie-dye (it was the 1970s) and he was so cool! In secondary school it was my art teachers - Anda Paterson & James Spence - they gave me loads of support and encouragement to help me to get into Glasgow School of Art. 
 
When did you start drawing? Can’t remember not drawing or making something. I spent most of my childhood lying on the floor surrounded by paper, pens, crayons, glue and glitter… What got you into drawing? My Mum & Dad – my mum was a primary school teacher and was very creative – I think it must have rubbed off on me. 
 
What's your favourite Itchy Coo book? Animal ABC What's your favourite Itchy Coo illustration which you have drawn? It changes all the time – at the moment it’s Katie’s clarty, sleekit Wirms dae jist whit they like from Katie’s Beasties. What's your favourite Itchy Coo poem/story/illustration by someone else? King O The Midden – the poems and the illustrations 
 
Which one person or people in your family spoke the most Scots? Most people around me spoke Scots. What's your favourite Scots word? Mingin What's your favourite Scots animal word? Puddock Favourite Scots adjective? Dreich Favourite Scots verb? Keek 
 
Favourite Burns' poem or song? My Love is like a Red Red Rose Favourite illustrator? Beatrix Potter for the beautiful detail in her work and Neal Layton for the fun and spontaneity of his work. Artist that's most influenced you? Beatrix Potter 
 
Do you have a pet? No, but I’d love to have a dog one day. What do you do when you're not illustrating? I love to spend time in our garden, sitting quietly and watching the birds or pottering about with plants and flowers. I like to sew, make jewellery and 4 days a week I’m a graphic designer for The Highland Council. 
 
Anything else you want to say/add? Draw, draw and draw some more….never give up, find your own style and have fun! Oh, and carry around a sketch book/note book – you never know when an idea will just pop into your head.

Born at an early age and have been drawing ever since.

I know this isn’t helpful but I am a fairly private person, although ‘discovered’ from time to time – I find this a mixed blessing.

Where were you born? In Yorkshire. Where did you grow up? I grew up in Newport-on-Tay, Fife. Where do you live now? I live in Bruntsfield, Edinburgh.

Which school or schools did you go to? I went to Newport Primary School and Madras College St. Andrews was my secondary school.

Did you have a nickname at school? Jules. Who was your favourite teacher? Why? I didn't really have a favourite teacher But I did have a favourite place i.e. the art department.

When did you start drawing? I started drawing like most children when I was very young and able to play/make a mess with paint. What got you into drawing? My dad's an artist and had a studio at home so I watched him working and discovered that I enjoyed it too!

What's your favourite Itchy Coo illustration you have drawn? ‘Birlosaurs gaein roond an roond' in Sweetieraptors. What's your favourite Itchy Coo illustrations by someone else? Illustrations by David Sutton for Planet Fankle.

Do you have a community project you've enjoyed working with? I enjoyed working on the mural I painted for the Netherbow Storytelling centre in Edinburgh.

What's your favourite Scots word? Glaikit. What's your favourite Scots animal word? Moose. Favourite Scots adjective? Dreich. Favourite Scots verb? Greetin. Favourite Burns' poem or song? Tae a moose.

What do you do when you're not writing/illustrating? I like to read, go to the cinema go for walks and spend time with friends.
